Baseball Standings
How does Major League Baseball playoffs work? The wild card? Which teams in the standings go to the playoffs?

I always forget but isn’t it 1 team from each division? What about the wild card? I don’t remember what that is either. If someone could give a detailed description that would be awesome! Thanks!

The top teams in each division make the playoffs, for 3 in each league.
Also, the wild card team, which is the non-division winning team with the best record in each league, also gets in.

So your seeding would be that the division winners are #1-3 (in order of their record) while the wild card is #4. First round series would be #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3. If the wild card is from the same division as the number #1 seed, the match ups would be #1 vs. #3 and #2 vs. #4.

The 2 first round (Divisional Playoffs) winners go the the League Championship Series with the winners advancing to the World Series.
